My site is Coconut Island Coconut Milk located in Khao Laem National Park Kanchanaburi. The island was evicted by officials due to unauthorized use of land, in building more than 2000 coconut milk trees in the conservation area. From Google Maps, the map in 2014 is still the same as in 2023 the main plant planted in the area is coconut milk trees since 2019 the government planned to turn the island into a new tourist spot someday and this is my proposal island is a natural conservation area I don’t want too many people to visit it, so I go with a more luxury and exclusive type of retreating because the island main plant and program is coconut, I decided to design a coconut research and beauty experiencing center
The building plan is inspired by the stem cells of the coconut milk tree, which exists humbly under the soil, and coconut trees blend in with the mountain. The main material is rammed earth, mixed with local material and byproducts from the industrial program: husk. Using the method of excavation, cut-and-fill, by using the soil that got extracted to create new spaces. The project does not touch only on the building but to also on rewilding the island, and reintroducing local plants back into the island while also maintaining coconut agriculture by using the method of organic farming. The building connects underground and above ground by creating different openings throughout the buidling to let light comes through. And though the building is built underground, it still embrace rainfall, with having gutters through out the parts that have openings for the water to disperse out into the ground below. At the end, I want people to experience the building as a healing space with the earthy smell of the rammed earth and soil above, along with glimpse of sunlight and rain leading into the building through different small openings. For the project is not only healing for humans but healing for the environment as well.
