School of Dust
This is the school conducted in the future. In the world where Bangrak is in an economic bubble burst crisis due to the bad management of the government. There are a lot of abandoned buildings and buildings that are too old beyond simple maintenance.
The school's mission is to use Bangrak as an experiment area for students to try and solve these problems. In the first two years of school, students will learn fundamental skills and knowledge about architecture at the base: Sathorn Unique Tower. The students will mainly research and experiment with dust, particularly pm 2.5, that floats around the city to create a new construction material.
Then in the second half of the school's curriculum, they will go around Bangrak to use the newly experimented material to renovate/ continue to build those abandoned unfinished buildings. While using experiments and creativity to build, repair, and restore important existing buildings.
In the end, we also aim to turn Bangrak from a creative district, which it is right now, to a super-creative district that will improve the district's economy and local's life quality.
The school area contains all the facilities the students need. From studying areas: a lab, library, auditorium, post-production lab, and classroom; to interacting zones: a bar, and cafeteria; and lastly the relaxing zones: sleeping capsules for students working late, an indoor garden, and a common room.
Here is the main curriculum of the school. Students will be learning the fundamental architecture school skills, and will also be focusing on the research about dust as construction material, and the renovation of Bangrak.
The school building is renovated from Sathorn Unique Tower, a big abandoned building in Bangkok that has been abandoned for 40+ years. The school is conducted in the original parking lot floors and the top part of the building acts as a filter to collect dust from the Bangkok air. Inside are tubes and processors that will turn dust into different substances like sheets or liquid to be 3d printed or processed into construction material. Students will then use this material to experiment and build modules to bring to renovate the other abandoned buildings as pre-fabricated pieces.
Bangkok's air is filled with dust and pollution. After the building filters some in, the air is ought to be clearer and easier to breathe.
These are the examples od modules built by the students to be put in an abandoned Chinese restaurant and some are being using in the school. The modules can be designed and decorate in different ways. So eventthough they are made from dust, they can still be colorful and full of style.
